sooner than later

Pet Peeve time!
Recently I’ve heard several people use the phrase “sooner than later,” leaving off the “rather.”
“Well, we decided it would be best to do it sooner than later.”
That says nothing. Every point in time is sooner than later. Eight hundred years from now is sooner than later than 800 years from now.

casual greeting

I’ve recently found myself getting annoyed at the standard, casual, meaningless greetings we toss around.
“Hi!”
“Hey.”
“How’s it going?”
“Good, good. How about you?”
“Great.”
Why do we bother? It’s just a filler, it carries no meaning, conveys no true sense of caring about the other person. Maybe it’s just my personality, but I’d rather not greet someone at all [...]
